Almost a local, Dave moved to SLT in 1968 and graduated South Tahoe High. Dave became the
Director of Theatre at Lake Tahoe Community College for about twenty years where he had the
privilege to be a lead in the design and creation of the Duke Theatre. He has since directed more
than 100 productions.
His interest in film, which led to Dave’s Movie Minute, started with having a film history class on the
books when he showed up at the college. He had had a couple film classes in college and so he did a
deep dive into learning film history and criticism so he could teach a film sequence. His approach to
film critique is to try and make it relatable to an average viewer. Since COVID, he has mostly been
choosing films that are streaming somewhere that might be interesting and also looks for films that
people might not have come across.
Dave is still active directing and occasionally acting locally, mostly at The Valhalla Boathouse Theatre
and he still plays with the Tahoe Improv Players who are now in their 31st year. Being a Tahoe guy, Dave has also done outdoorsy things. Back in the day, he was a fully certified cross country ski instructor, worked for the US Forest service for four seasons and was even the President of a much earlier, smaller version of the Tahoe Mountain Bike Association. These days he just gets out there for some old man fun, often with his wife of 30 years Teresa Bertrand.
